Beim Friseur

English translation follows the German text.

Guten Tag.

Good day.
We have come to expect that food products which we buy in the supermarket have a use by date, not so much so that we will later know when we can throw them away, but rather so that we know at the moment of purchase approximately how long they are going to keep for. This helps us to be able to better select the correct product.

It would be nice if this was also the case with haircuts. I mean, mould only grows on the worst haircuts of all, but almost all are quite capable of not looking so good after a certain amount of time. Because ther is a link between the style of a haircut and the length which is suitable for it. When being cut, these are optimally matched to one another, but with time the hair grows unabatedly, which unavoidably leads to style and length at some point not matching one another any more.

This "some point" is, however, certainly not the same for all haircuts. For example, a skinhead haircut can pretty quickly not look very skinheady, whilst a haricut which is just supposed to be "not all that long" can keep for a few week before becoming "actually a bit too long", provided it has been cut by a talented barber. So I think it would be good if the barber would, when asked, be able to say how long a haircut was going to keep, so that you could, if appropriate, opt for a more sustainable haircut, if you wanted to. This information should be made available to the customer.
See you tomorrow.
