Advent 12 - Dawkins on visions

English translation follows the German text.

Hallo.

As 12th Advent present I'm quoting from a book, without giving the author proper credit by telling you who he is. What a cad I am!
"It is more difficult [than dealing with visions of individuals] to deal with mass visions, such as the report, according to which 70,000 pilgrims in 1917 in the Portugese town of Fatima saw, "how the sun tore itself from the heavens and came down upon the crowd". How 70,000 people can have the same hallucination cannot be explained without further investigation. But it is more difficult to accept the suggestion that it really happened, [because] it would have had to make itself apparent through the catastrophic destruction of the solar system, with such great forces of accelleration that all people would have been slung into outer space."
See you tomorrow.
